Susu

Assistant Go-to-Market Manager. 985 undergraduate, a master’s degree from Australia. I thought I had done the right thing at the right time, and life would work out fine. Management Trainee, global GTM team. Every step went well. Until Jakarta. The man who pulled me out of the sea was a psychologist. But what came after, the hallucinations, the levitation, had no medical explanation. And my life I’d been holding so tightly began, slowly, to loosen. There may be no hope of a cure for Seed Syndrome, but as Dr. Neonardi suggested, I need to write, at least to record how I feel in this very moment.

Phaon Neonardi

Psychologist. The son of Totok and Sundanese. A Catholic. Trained in psychiatry at the National University of Singapore, specializing in cognitive behavioral therapy for depression and anxiety. I also treats insomnia and studies culture-bound syndromes. When I met Susu, her symptoms felt like a plague spreading through our generation. But later, I was inspired by her courage. Together we climbed the giant seawall at the edge of the world. In the end, we didn’t become seeds. If miracles still exist, they might lie in the goodwill we show toward one another, even after we’ve messed everything up. I believe that by telling our stories, we can find redemption.

The Arcane

It fed on the despair of all living beings. By exploiting the collapse of grand narratives, it lures the disappointed and the fearful to shed their heavy bodies and break free of gravity, chasing an eternal peace built on one belief: the world is falling apart, and nothing means anything. That vision of "peace" is seductive.
